About
About After the Apostles
After the Apostles is a free reader for the earliest Christian writings. It aims to make them easy to find, easy to read on a phone, and easy to understand for someone who has never opened a Church Father.
Where the texts come from
Every text is a public-domain English translation, mainly from the nineteenth-century Ante-Nicene Fathers series edited by Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson (and Philip Schaff's later series). The source and translator are shown at the foot of each work. No modern copyrighted translations are used.
Introductions
The introductions are written in a neutral, historical voice: who wrote the work, when, why, and what scholars debate. They do not argue for any denomination's position.
Modern-English renderings
Soon, each section will have an optional rendering in modern English. These are produced with AI, released in batches, checked by a person before they go live, and always labelled "AI rendering, not a translation" with the original beside them. If a rendering and the original differ, trust the original.
